Sleep training is training the children to soothe themselves to sleep. But when a child is not sleeping, the parents are not going to sleep too, and that is a big problem. As such, mothers with sleep deprivation will not enjoy every minute of their day. However, both toddlers and pre-schoolers can have better sleep with the following sleep training methods.
Create a Favorable Sleeping Area
It is essential to have a cosy bedroom for your child to sleep all night during sleep training. Set the room between 68 and 72 degrees and make sure it is totally dark. Run white noise continuously to block out night bumps or unwanted noise.
If you still have some light in the room, try to use a blackout shade to make it darker. This will ensure that toddlers or pre-schoolers go to bed quickly.
Establish peaceful routines
Getting children to calm down is one of the most infallible sleep training methods any parent can offer. Children enjoy being outside especially during the summer months. Walk with them in a stroller around a park. Allow them to look at nature and the beauty around them. Walks in the park is a great way to calm them and get them to fall asleep.
If you make a habit out of a stroll in the park every night, the child will start connecting that time with sleep time. This will help establish a sleep routine and better sleep through the night.
Avoid Meals and Caffeine
Falling asleep can be hard for children that are heavy with caffeine or carbs, especially within five hours of bedtime. Even giving them snacks for up to an hour before sleep can cause indigestion.
The same goes for teas and sodas that contain hidden caffeine. Lock the kitchen at least two hours before the bedtime routine starts.
